A Few Types Of At-Home Caregiving Services That May Help Your Loved One

by Amanda Palmer

If you have a loved one who is not capable of doing everything for themselves, but they are not ready to go to a nursing home or an assisted living facility, you should consider in-home caregiving services. This will allow your loved one to stay in their own home, where they are comfortable, and give you peace of mind that they are being cared for. When you talk to the company that offers this type of service, you should be explicit in what you need and want from the nurses and/or aids. Here is some of the help you may receive.

Cooking and Cleaning

Cooking and cleaning may be hard for someone with mobility issues. However, it is important that the patient has good, nutritious food to eat at every meal. An aide can cook meals for your loved one to eat while they are there and prepare others that can be heated in a microwave when they are not there. It is also important that the patient's home is clean. Not only will a clean home be healthier, but it can also make them feel better about themselves and want to have people come visit. Socializing is important for everyone, even if they are not able to get out and about on their own.

Bathing and Dressing

Some patients have problems getting in and out of a tub and then getting dressed. If your loved one has this type of problem, be sure to ask that the aid helps with this. You will need to explain how much help is needed. The patient may be able and want to pick up their own clothes each day, but need help getting it on. They may also need help doing their hair, shaving, or completing other hygiene tasks.

Medications

Some patients have a hard time remembering to take their medications on time. While this may require a nurse to be there to give them, it can be arranged. The nurse may stop in once or twice a day and give any necessary medications so you won't have to worry about them missing a dose or taking extra when they forget they already took them.

It is normal for people to need some extra help with simple things as they age. It does not mean that they need to be put in an institution or special community. Contact a company that provides aides and nurses for at-home services and let your loved one stay at home.

About Me

Choosing A Great Assisted Living Center

After my grandmother was too old to live on her own any more, I knew that I had to do something to keep her comfortable and safe. I started looking into assisted living facilities, and before I knew it, I had narrowed down the search to a few different places. It was absolutely incredible to see how many different options there were, so I felt great about only having to choose between a few. After I talked with my grandmother about what she wanted, it made it even easier to choose, and she is now comfortably living in a great environment. Check out this blog for more information.
